A global traveler has sure seen thousands of bridges in many countries, but not all of them, if any, has ever seen a natural bridge, built by the nature itself. The fact that the bridge is not a hand made one makes it more interesting and noteworthy.

Curiously enough the bridge is called Satan’s Bridge or Devil’s Bridge (or Satani Kamurj in Armenian). It is situated right under the mountain where the famous Tatev Monastery is located, at the bottom of Vorotan Canyon. This natural monument is 30 meters long and 50-60 meters wide. The legend goes that the people running to Tatev were blocked by the river nearby. And before the invaders could attack, a rock bridge was magically spread on the river, saving the people in despair.

Along the edges of the bridge down to the water huge icicle-stalactites of fantastic shapes are hanging; from the rocky ledges cascades of pure mineral water are breaking down. In some places natural baths are formed making it an ideal place for spa treatment.

The bridge is quite a dangerous one and only a rope and a ladder can help you down where you can see two limestone caves, the rushing water and gorgeous pools. Anyway, if you are alone and no one can help you down the ladder, avoid putting your life into danger.

The sight is so picturesque that you can never get bored here. The river flowing down the bridge is naturally carbonated and if you take it in your hands you will see it slowly form bubbles. If you walk and have a look around, you will encounter two pools: one is handmade, and the other is natural. The handmade pool is warm and is constantly refreshed from above. The natural one is cool and noisy. It is for you to decide which one to choose.
