Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a unique country, situated in the very heart of the Middle East. Jordan is an ancient, but at the same time a modern country with a monarchic government which offers diverse, safe and traditional hospitality to the visitors. Being a part of the Holy Land, Jordan makes an indelible impression with the abundance of rare historical monuments and the rest in the resorts of world famous Dead and Red Seas.

Jordan is predominantly an Islamic country, though the freedom of faith is legal. The clothing of Muslim women covers the legs, hands and hair. Women living in the west do not have to follow these rules, but too candid outfits are never admitted. On the territory of old Amman both women and men should follow the conservative style. Practically shorts are never worn here. They will especially be unsuitable in the center of Amman no matter the gender and the owner. It is forbidden to sunbathe without the upper part of the swimsuit.
You should be careful with your eyes while swimming in the Dead Sea: you’d better wear eye-glasses for swimming in the pool. At least solar-control eye-glasses will suite – they will protect your eyes from sudden splashes.

Climate

Jordan is a country with a favorable Mediterranean climate. Thanks to this fact the country attracts tourists the whole year round. There may be precipitations from November till April. The coolest month is January, the hottest one is August.

Cuisine

Nothing can be compared with Arab cuisine! Food is almost a cult in the East. When you appear in a restaurant you can freely order meze. It is a multitude of diverse appetizers. They are quite enough to refresh oneself. In general, Jordan cuisine is an inseparable part of Arab culinary traditions with its own numerous characteristics. Dishes of the local cuisine are not that hot and spicy, as it is usually consumed. In all dishes they usually put meat, diverse greens and herbs, lemons of all types, onion, marinated olives, cedar nuts and so on. You can buy alcoholic beverage of local and foreign production any time, except Ramadan – Muslim fast. The most favorite types of wines are those from Jordan, Israel and other neighboring countries. It is advisable to try arak, a local hard beverage, mixed with water. As a result it acquires dense milk coloring.

Religion

Jordan is a Muslim country, but other religions are not forbidden. Muslims of Sunni grouping form the predominating majority, but there are Christian Arabs as well.

Language

The official language is Arabic, but majority speaks English, and some speak even Russian.
