Best Of Armenia And Nagorno-Karabakh 13 days / 12 nights Day 1 Arrival-City Tour Arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel. After breakfast at the hotel start the tour driving along Abovyan Avenue. Visit Erebuni Museum. Erebuni fortress was built on top of a hill as a strategic military center and a royal residence in 782 BC. Now it houses a museum which was a present for the 2750th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan. Proceed to the depository of ancient manuscripts Matenadaran preserving numerous ancient items. Lunchtime tasting Armenian traditional food. Later proceed to Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Park visiting the Genocide Museum. Visit Cafesjian Center for the Arts, enjoying the marvelous collection of glass, painting, sculpture, print and drawing. Proceed to Opera House visiting the roundabouts: State Conservatory, the Monument “Men” in the famous Armenian painter Martiros Saryan Park. The monument is devoted to a renowned Armenian film called “Men”, then visit Lake Swan, Monument of Aram Khachatryan, William Saroyan, Arno Babajanyan, Hovhannes Tumanyan. Yerevan-Khor Virap- Noravank-Jermuk After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to the 17th century Khor Virap monastery, which is famous for the deep dungeon where Gregory the Illuminator was kept for 13 years. The most beautiful view of the Mount Ararat opens from the monastery. Drive to the 13th century monastery Noravank with a magnificent panorama. The view from above the rocks is really astonishing. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes in a cave café. Watch the baking process of the Armenian traditional bread “lavash” in the underground oven called “tonir”. Continue the tour to the Armenian spa town of Jermuk famous for its rich nature and mineral water springs. It even has a gallery of mineral water springs. Dinner and overnight in Jermuk.
Jermuk-Sisian-Khndzoresk-Goris After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to Sisian town visiting the gorgeous waterfall of Shaki. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Continue the tour to the village of Khndzoresk, which is famous as a cave village. Drive to Goris. Dinner and overnight in Goris.
Goris-Stepanakert After breakfast at the hotel drive to Stepanakert with a stop at the monument ‘We and Our Mountains”. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Stepanakert city tour. The high mountains and gorgeous forests surrounding the capital city make this spot a real paradise. Visit the central square with Presidential Palace, Government Houses and the Youth Palace. Visit the Alley of Lovers with a staircase decorated with lamps in the shape of a statue of a bride and a bridegroom. Another haunt of the local people as well as foreigners is the beautiful park called “Pitachok” (translated as “patch”). Dinner and overnight in Stepanakert.
Stepanakert-Askeran-Tigranakert-Gandzasar-Shoushi- Stepanakert After breakfast at the hotel drive to Askeran, a town in Karabakh visiting the Askeran fortress. The latter was built as a defensive construction for Shushi town. Drive to the recently unearthed town of Tigranakert built in the 1st century BC. Now it is a castle-museum and a must-see attraction in Artsakh. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive back to Shushi visiting St. Ghazanchetsots church. Drive to Stepanakert. Dinner and overnight in Stepanakert.
Stepanakert-Devil’s Bridge -Tatev After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to the 17th century Tatev monastery perched atop the Azat River Gorge. The site is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will experience the longest in the world cable way called “Wings of Tatev”, situated in this region. On the way stop at the magical Devil’s Bridge located at the bottom of the Vorotan Canyon. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive back to Goris. Free time. Dinner and overnight in Goris or Sisian.
Tatev-Karahunj (Zorats Karer)-Areni-Yerevan After breakfast at the hotel start the tour Karahunj, Armenian Stonehenge older than the British Stonehenge. The stones date back to the second millennium BC. Drive to Areni with a stop at the Mozrov cave of wild and unusual beauty. The cave was discovered only 30 years ago during the construction of the Mozrov village road. Areni is the place where the oldest in the world winery was recently found. The village is famous for its wine producing culture till our days. Lunch tasting Armenian traditional food. Drive to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Day 8 Yerevan-Aruch-Yereruyk-Harichavank-Marmashen-Gyumri After breakfast at the hotel start the tour to Aruch. In the 7th century the place was the residence of Armenian rulers. The village is now most famous for its 7th century St. Gregory church. Continue the tour to the 5th century wonderful basilica church called Yereruyk. Though in ruins the structure is of great archeological importance. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive to Harichavank, a 7th century monastery well known as one of Armenia’s most famous monastic centers. Drive to Marmashen. The monastery is situated on the left bank of the Akhuryan River surrounded by fruitful trees, a stream and a nice waterfall. Drive to Gyumri. Dinner and overnight in Gyumri.
Gyumri City Tour-Saghmossavank-Hovanavank-Oshakan-Yerevan After breakfast at the hotel start Gyumri city tour visiting the Town Square, Mother Armenia statue, Hill of Honor, Alley of Heroes, St. Nshan church, Freedom Square, St. Astvatsatsin church, Alley of Khachkars. Proceed to Saghmosavank surrounded by Mount Aragats, Mount Ara, and the deep Kasakh Gorge. Lunch tasting traditional Armenian dishes. Drive to Hovhannavank architectural complex. Drive to Oshakan to visit St. Mesrop Mashtots church, where the inventor of the Armenian alphabet is buried. Drive to Yerevan. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Yerevan-Echmiadzin-Zvartnots-Yerevan After breakfast at the hotel drive to Echmiadzin, which is the holy city of all Armenians and the seat of the Catholicos. Visit the main Cathedral, churches of St. Gayane, St. Hripsime, St. Shoghakat, all of them are inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. Lunch tasting Armenian traditional dishes. Drive back to Yerevan with a stop at the 7th century Zvartnots ruins. This site is also inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan. Day 11 Yerevan- Garni-Geghard-Yerevan After breakfast at the hotel proceed to Garni pagan temple which is a wonderful piece of Hellenistic architecture and the only surviving pagan temple in the whole territory of Caucasus. Lunch tasting Armenian traditional food. Proceed to the magnificent monastic complex Geghard, which is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Listen to the medieval vocal concert in the monastery. Return to Yerevan with a stop in the Vernissage with arts and crafts and paintings of Armenian culture. Dinner and overnight in Yerevan.
Yerevan Brandy Factory After breakfast at the hotel drive to the Brandy Factory for an excursion for tasting delicate Armenian wine and brandy and for learning about the techniques of brandy making. Leisure time for shopping.
